How can Bolton #Counselling & Hypnotherapy Clinic Help?

Counselling is a safe environment in which you can talk about and acknowledge difficult feelings, and also recognise repeated patterns of behaviour without judgement, criticism or pressure. The purpose of counselling is to help you work towards living in a way you feel is more resourceful or satisfying. The goals will vary according to your needs. Working towards these goals is done in a private and confidential environment and at a pace that suits you.

You might seek counselling for many different reasons:

  • #Anxiety;
  • #Panic attacks;
  • #Depression;

  • #Stress management;
  • #Anger issues;
  • #Bereavement and loss;
  • #Relationship issues;
  • #Historical abuse (sexual, emotional or physical);
  • #Confidence or self esteem issues.

    What will a counsellor do for me?
  • Listen effectively to what you are saying;
  • Work with you to define and reach your goals;
  • Facilitate the untangling of thoughts, feelings and worries;
  • Help you gain an insight into how you think, feel and act;
  • Help you express your emotions;
  • Work with you to find your own solutions;
  • Support you at all times, challenge you when necessary;
  • Enable you to become empowered to act independently in your own best interests;
  • To accept and understand the things in life that can not be changed.

    Cognitive behavioural Therapy (CBT)

    What is CBT?

    Cognitive behavioural Therapy, or #CBT as it is known, is a form of talking therapy that helps people to overcome emotional problems like anxiety, depression, panic attacks, anger issues and phobias to name a few.

    CBT is a combination of:

    a) Cognitive therapy, which explores people's thoughts and beliefs, and

    b) Behavioural therapy, which focuses on the behaviour that results from those thoughts and beliefs.

    CBT encourages you to understand that your thoughts and beliefs have a significant effect on your feelings and actions. As an example negative thoughts usually lead to anger or frustration or sadness or fear. Through CBT, you can learn to challenge and explore your negative thoughts so as to realistically re-assess your situation so that you can learn to think and act in a more positive manner.

    CBT is usually short term treatment, typically lasting for 6-10 hour long sessions. CBT requires your commitment to the process, that is, you must be willing to actively work alongside the therapist and to practise what you have learnt at home each week.

    If you would like more information on #CBT and on how it can help your particular issue, then please phone Susan 0793 230 5994

    Anxiety is a universal human emotion and is experienced in many situations, from preparing for a speech to watching a sporting event. As part of everyday life it can improve motivation and performance by increasing alertness and preparing the body for action. For many though, the extent to which anxiety affects them can cause problems. Anxiety may impede their lives from having a mild effect to severe cases, where anxiety can be described as ruining their lives, and that of others around them. Manifesting itself as General Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Panic Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Phobias, Agoraphobia, Health Anxiety, Social Phobia ( which may include work/performance issues).

    General Anxiety Disorder is persistence and excessive anxiety or worry about events and activities which may or may not happen.

    Panic Disorder is the fear of having a spontaneous panic attack. The intensity of the attack can be extremely severe and many people feel they are having a heart attack, and/or are going to die or are going insane.

    Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is the experience of obsessive, unwanted thoughts/and or compulsive behaviours.This may include repetitive behaviours such as cleaning, checking, counting, repeating words silently, hand washing. People are plagued by recurring thoughts or ideas that just will not go away. OCD is a condition that causes distress to hundreds of thousands of people.

    Social Anxiety is the experience of fear, anxiety or panic in social situations. People may fear embarrassing themselves or making a fool of themselves in some way.

    Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is the experience, or witness of, or confrontation with an event or events that involves actual or threatened death, or serious injury, or threat of serious physical harm to self or others. The major features of PSTD is the reliving of the event through dreams, nightmares or flashbacks.

    Health Anxiety is persistent and excessive worry about health. Excessive worries concerning anxiety are multifaceted consisting of distressing emotions(fear, dread), physiological arousal and bodily sensations (palpitations, shaking, dizziness), thoughts and images of danger, and avoidance and other defensive behaviours.

    Symptoms of anxiety may include;
    Breathing difficulties
    Tightening of the throat
    Frequent need to urinate
    Chest pain
    Lightheadedness Muscle tension
    Feeling detached from body
    Feeling faint

    Treatment for anxiety is available at the counselling and hypnotherapy clinic, and is highly individualised to each client's requirements. The exact form of treatment and number of sessions will vary from client to client. However, improvements can often be made in as little as 4 to 8 sessions.

    Treatment includes relaxation techniques, cognitive behavioural therapy techniques, behavioural therapy and hypnosis. Depending on the individual client's needs a program of therapy will be devised. I have considerable experience in working with anxiety,including male and female clients.

    If you are living in the Bolton, Wigan, Bury or Manchester area the clinic is handy to the motorway & bus services.
